2 in a row for "Old Man" Mark Martin.

A week away from a NASCAR track didn’t slow down Mark Martin. Mark Martin, driver of the #5 for Hendrick Motorsports, made it two in a row Friday capturing the pole for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He got the pole with a lap of 125.773 around the "world's fastest half-mile". This is the first time in 20 years that Martin has gotten the pole in consecutive races.

Just two weeks ago at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the 50 year old Martin became the second oldest driver in NASCAR to win the pole. That pole was the first one since May 5th, 2001.

“It’s the (No.) 5 car,” Martin said in giving all the credit to his Hendrick Motorsports crew. “We have learned so much through each individual event that man, I feel good. We unloaded here rolling.”

Winning two poles is just the morale booster the #5 team needs. The engine blows at California and Las Vegas, and then the cut tire at Atlanta has caused the team to be 34th in the Sprint Cup Series standings.

For the second race in a row, Scott Riggs and Jeremy Mayfield were sent home. Been a tough couple of weeks for these drivers and teams. Hopefully Martinsville next week will bring them some luck

Sunday’s race will start at 1:30pm eastern time on Fox.
