Can't Believe it's been 5 years

January 31st, 2004 is the day that changed my life forever. It's a day that will be forever in my mind and in my heart. For some that don't know, my grandparents were involved in a car accident resulting in the death of both of them. Many can't believe that I still remember the phone call from my Uncle, as well as what I was doing that day. It's hard not to forget. The emotions and sadness that followed in the days, weeks, months, and years is something none of us were ready to cope with. No one was ready for this nightmare, but we've handled it well. We still have our moments were we want to talk about it. Sometimes it gets better, but other days we want to cry.

Everyone loved Carolyn and Charlie. They were the greatest people I have ever met. I am the oldest of 3 grandchildren, so I was able to spend more time with them. I still remember our vacations. They help me get through the bad days. Birthdays, Holidays, and even receiving good news is still hard for everyone, especially me. I was born 2 days before my grandmother's birthday. I was her birthday present. Christmas is always hard because we spend it with my Grandmother's brother and his family. I know they are looking down and smiling on me, but sometimes, I wish they were here to tell me they loved me and were proud of me.

I know I'll see them again. Until that time comes, I am here making the best out of my life. I love you, Grandma and Grandpa! We all miss you both and think about you daily. Rest in Peace!

OMG! I'm turning into a girlie girl.

I don't know where it has come from but lately, I've started dressing and acting VERY girlie. It's weird. I've started actually caring about my appearance and how I look. It started two weeks ago with my date with Derek. However, I just really noticed it on Wednesday. People at work have been commenting on it. They've all noticed that I have been avoiding t-shirts and hoodies. Originally they thought I was sick. I don't know where it has come from, but I am loving it. The attention is awesome! I am actually feeling like an adult now. I even went to Midtown Nails this afternoon and treated myself to a pedicure. Dawn will definitely freak out tomorrow night when she sees them. Little me NEVER does anything like this. I thought it would be hard to do things with my nails, but it is actually pretty easy. Guess I am growing up! Wonder what will be next?

A Few Guy Rules Women Should Be Aware Of

I found this on another site and it got me thinking. Men should come with a rule book. I'm sure it would eliminate 75% of fights in a relationship.

The Guy's Rules

1. Men are NOT mind readers.

2. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

3. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or changing of the tides. LET IT BE.

4. Shopping is NOT a sport, and no, we are never going to think of it that way.

5. Crying is blackmail.

6. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Strong hints do not work. Obvious hints do not work. Just say it!!!

7. Yes and no are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

8. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

9. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.

10. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

11. If something we said can be interpreted in two ways, and one of the ways makes you angry or sad, we meant the other one.

12. You can either ask us to do something, or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know how best to do it, do it yourself.

13. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials!

14. Christopher Columbus did not need directions, and neither do we!

15. All real men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

16. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

17. If we ask what is wrong, and you say “nothing”, we will act like nothing is wrong. We know you are lying, but it’s just not worth the hassle.

18. If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, expect an answer you don’t want to hear.

19. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine… Really.

20. Don’t ask us what we’re thinking unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, or golf.

21. You have enough clothes.

22. You have too many shoes.

23. I am in shape. Round is a shape!

Did you know men really don’t mind that? It’s like camping.

Do you have any guy rules of your own?

Vegetarians Have Better Sex?

With the Super Bowl on Sunday, many companies are pulling out all the stops for that perfect 30 second spot. I was reading where NBC banned a PETA commercial from airing during the Super Bowl. The commercial suggested that vegetarians have better sex. Check the commercial out:

Is PETA onto something, do vegetarians have better sex?

How Cool

So, I am sitting at work today when my cell phone rings. A lady from The Orthopedic Institute in Gainesville, Florida called. She had seen my resume' on Indeed.com and really liked it. Apparently, they are hiring Med Techs who have an Orthopedic background. Lucky for me, I have an Orthopedic background. Moving to Gainesville would definitely be a big adventure. I'm sure I'm up for the challenge. However, I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. I'm going to call her tomorrow and let her know that I am flying down for an interview. I'll keep yall updated.

Wear Pink on Monday for Kay Yow

North Carolina State’s Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame Women’s basketball coach who won more than 700 games while earning fans with her decades long fight against breast cancer died on Saturday. She was 66. Yow was first diagnosed with the disease in 1987. A public viewing is scheduled for Friday morning in Cary, followed by the funeral that afternoon. Yow will be buried the next day in her hometown of Gibsonville, located about 70 miles west of Raleigh. “She’s just been a great friend to so many people; obviously left her footprints all over the place with the kids she has taught and molded," Tennessee coach Pat Summitt told ESPN. "And she is a woman that had fought such a hard fight, but it was always about everyone else, never about Kay." Yow had a record of 737-344 in 38 years -- 34 years with the Wolfpack -- in a career filled with countless milestones. She coached the U.S. Olympic women's team to a gold medal in 1988; won four Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championships; earned 20 NCAA tournament bids; and reached the Final Four in 1998. She also was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2002; North Carolina State dedicated "Kay Yow Court" at Reynolds Coliseum in 2007.
But for many fans, Yow was best defined by her unwavering resolve while fighting cancer, from raising awareness and money for research to staying with her team through the debilitating effects of the disease and chemotherapy treatments. In her final months, Yow was on hormonal therapy as the cancer spread to her liver and bones. She never flinched or complained, relying on her faith as the disease progressed. She commonly noted there were other patients with "harder battles than I'm fighting" and said it was inspiring for her to stay with her team. "If you start to dwell on the wrong things, it'll take you down fast," Yow said in 2007. "Every morning, I wake up and the first thing I think of is I'm thankful. I'm thankful for another day." Kay will always be an inspiration to girls and women everywhere. She will be missed by everyone! Rest In Peace, Kay! So on Monday, wear Pink.Show support for not only Kay but millions of women all over the country who are battling Breast Cancer.

44th President of the United States

Getting up this morning for work, I felt horrible. Instead of bracing the cold weather, I decided to stay home and watch some of the Inauguration coverage. Today is the day! Millions of Americans have been waiting for this day since Martin Luther Kin Jr’s “I Have A Dream” Speech. It is estimated that 2 million people made the trip to DC for this historic event. Now, I didn’t vote for the man, but I will admit that I am watching this with a smile. As a history buff, I’d love to be standing on the National Mall and hearing first hand, President Obama’s 1st speech as our 44th President. While watching the coverage, I wonder what is going on in George W. Bush’s head. This must be a hard day for him. Soon, he’ll be leaving Washington DC and making his way to Waco, Texas where he will reside. I’m sure our country will be better off with Obama as our President. Only time will tell, I guess. Everyone will be watching very closely during his 1st 100 days in office. Many analysts say you can tell a lot about how a President will do while in office during that time period. The rest of the day is jam packed for President Obama, Michelle, and their 2 daughters. After the swearing in ceremony, they have a Luncheon in the Capital Building, followed by Inaugural Parade, and later this evening the Obama’s have to make an appearance at 10 very prestigious balls. Sounds like a very busy afternoon/evening for the Obama’s. I’m very glad I’m not them!

Then there were 4

Today’s the day! 4 NFL teams vying for a chance to play in Super Bowl XLIII. For the NFC Championship, the Philadelphia Eagles make the trip to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. While the Baltimore Ravens are in Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers for the AFC Championship. I'm still bitter that my Colts are playing for the AFC Championship. They lost in the 1st round to the Chargers which SUCKED. I refuse to get over it until MLB Spring Training starts. Now, if you were a betting person...what 2 teams do you think will be traveling to Tampa for the Super Bowl. My money is on the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers(Gotta make Vince happy). Good luck to all 4 teams today. LET'S GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!

* You Committed Adultery So Give Me Back My Kidney!

Dr. Richard Batista is your typical man undergoing a divorce. The only thing differentiating his case from other divorce proceedings is that...

He wants his kidney back from his soon to be former wife! He even held a press conference giving her the option of either paying him 1.5 million dollars or returning the kidney itself.

There are more details here but according to the man's attorney, Batista is devastated because he claims his wife (since 1990) Dawnell cheated on him. He claims he has been very hurt and humiliated by her actions. Dawnell is denying her soon to be ex-husband's accusations stating that he is controlling and obsessed.

Now, I've never suffered a divorce (nor have I ever been married for that matter) but I do think Batista's demand is absurd. What is his wife supposed to do? Cut the kidney out of her body and hand it over to him? Or seeing that he's a surgeon at Nassau University Medical Center, maybe he can do her the honors?

For me, it gets even more disgusting when I read that these two are parents to three children, ages 8, 11, and 14. I personally think Batista is being selfish for seeking such twisted retribution and for trying to hurt the mother of his children. Does he think that he'll get the kidney and everything will be okey-dokey? This woman has had three kidney transplants according to the article and her husband gave her his after one of her pregnancies resulted in a failed kidney.

One of my friends claims that Batista is sound in his demands. His wife cheated on him (although that maybe isn't true) and proved that she is an "ungrateful wrench." I don't see eye to eye with my friend on this matter. It is unethical to demand back a body organ that you willing donated to someone in need of it. Moreover, US law states that an organ donation is a gift, not a commodity.

If you were ever breaking up or splitting with someone would you demand your things back? Would you do so if your significant other commited adultery? What are your thoughts on this "give me back my kidney"case?

Airplane in the Hudson River?

It was like a scene from a movie. You kept waiting for the director to yell cut, and the actors to hurry out of the water. Instead this wasn’t the next Action movie, it was real life.

Millions of Americans turned on their televisions this afternoon to see a US Airways plane with 155 people(this includes the crew) on board in the almost frozen Hudson River in Manhattan. According to officials and passengers the plane hit at least one bird upon takeoff from LaGuardia Airport. The plant was heading to Charlotte, NC and had only been in the air for 3 minutes before crashing/landing into the Hudson.

Everyone on board survived, however; 15 people were taken to local hospitals. Some of the injuries include a couple being treated for hypothermia and one of the flight attendants being treated for a leg fracture. Everyone taken are expected to make full recoveries.

Tonight, many on board are calling Chesley B. Sullenberger, the pilot, a hero. Even has medical personnel tried to take him to the hospital, he refused to leave the scene of the accident until ALL passengers had been evacuated.

Today was such a scary day for those people. I am glad that they were able to walk away. It could have been a lot worse!

Welcome to the Red Sox, Smoltz

Well, it's official! John Smoltz is now a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. On Tuesday morning, Red Sox officials met with the media to make the big announcement. If his shoulder holds up, he could join an already strong rotation in place, led by Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka. Smoltz was the National League's Cy Young Award winner in 1996, when he went 24-8. He is an eight-time All-Star. He happens to be my 2nd favorite pitcher in t he MLB, right behind my boy Josh Beckett. I am very excited to see him leaving Atlanta and coming to Boston. He has a chance at winning another World Series Title here, and I hope that he is able to get one in 2009. Smoltz agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million pact that includes incentives that could bring the total to $10 million. Hopefully, Theo and the Red Sox organization decide to keep him around past the 2009 season. He has a very positive attitude, and can definitly bring a lot to the Red Sox Nation. Welcome Aboard John! Can't wait for the 2009 season to start.

28 days til Pitchers and Catchers report to Spring Training. I am getting VERY excited!

Thanks for the memories, Dungy!

After 7 years as the Indianapolis Colts head coach, Tony Dungy is retiring. Dungy is the winningest coach in Colts history and one of the NFL's most respected figures. Yesterday afternoon, he announced is retirement in an emotional press conference at Indiana Farm Burear Football Center. Coach Dungy will forever be known as the man who coached Peyton Manning to his 1st(and hopefully not last) Super Bowl Victory in 2006. During the press conference, Dungy said he really hoped that he could have led his Colts to this years Super Bowl in Tampa, and then retire after the win. We all know how that ended. Coach Dungy will truly be missed by the fans of the Colts. I wish him and his family nothing but the best, and hope his retirement is everything he wanted and more. I just hope he doesn't change his mind. After all, I'm pretty sure it will be hard Jim Caldwell, the newest Head Coach of the Colts, to leave that chair. Good luck Dugy! We're all going to miss you.

Congratulations Jim Rice!!!!!

Other than a World Series title, today is the biggest day in a Red Sox fans life. After being rejected 14 times, Jim Rice(former Red Sox left fielder) was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He'll join Rickey Henderson, baseball's all-time stolen base king as the two members of the 2009 class. Jim Rice was nominated for his 382 home runs he belted during his career with the Boston Red Sox. Every fan will remember Jim Rice and Red Sox players hope they will be able to live up to what he meant to the Red Sox Nation. On July 26th, Jim will join 32 other Red Sox players as a member of Cooperstown. Congratulations Jim! You truly deserve this honor!!!!!!!!

Shopping 'til we drop.....

Literally! This was definitely the theme of the day. Dawn, one of my best friends, and I started at 11:30am, and ended at 7:00pm. She is getting married on March 28th, 2009 to a great guy, Adam. Well, I have been asked to be one of her bridesmaids. Of course I had to say yes! We ended up shopping today for her Bridal Shower, Wedding, and Reception. It was a blast! Her and I haven't had a girlie day in a VERY long time. She and I laughed constantly, and made fun of morons. I like to think that her and I do that the best. Her wedding is going to be fantastic, and the only thing that will make it better is if I get to take home the Best Man, Derrek. He is gorgeous and such a sweet guy! I can't wait for another day with Dawn.

No Sooners Jersey for Me!

Tonight was the BCS(Bowl Championship Series) National Championship game. The Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners battled to see who would be #1 in the country. When the match up was declared back in December, I made a bet with my friend Mike who is a HUGE Sooners fan. We made a bet that if the Sooners won, I'd have to wear a Sooners a jersey for a day among other things, while if the Gators won, he was rocking out a Gators hat. Well, guess what!!!!! Florida defeated Oklahoma 24-14 to win the BCS National Championship title. No wearing an Oklahoma jersey for me. I'm doing the happy dance over here. I really don't look cute in Sooner colors. I am ready to see Mike in his Gators hat though. Dinner is going to be a SWEEEET victory as well. Hmmm, wonder what else I can get him to do??!?!? Congratulations Gator fans! I'm glad to see them win tonight.

I know Mike will look REALLY good in this pretty Gators hat.
